WADAKKANCHERRY: The Wadakkancherry police have arrested three individuals in the case of recruiting people into the Russian mercenary forces. The arrested persons are Thayyur native Siby, Ernakulam native Sandeep and Chalakudy native Sumesh Antony (Steve Antony).

The arrests were recorded under the non-bailable sections for charges of human trafficking and violation of immigration laws. City Police Commissioner R Ilango personally interrogated the three individuals at the Wadakkancherry police station. The police also recorded the statements of Kurian, the father of Jain who is undergoing treatment in Russia, and Joicy, the wife of Binil, who was killed in the war in Ukraine. Among those arrested, Sandeep and Sumesh Antony hold Russian citizenship. The complaint alleges that these individuals swindled large sums of money by promising jobs in Poland.

Binil had died in the war on the Ukrainian front, while his relative Jain sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized in Moscow. Siby, a relative who accompanied Binil, reportedly collected Rs 1.4 lakh, initially promising an electrician job in Poland. Later, the victims were informed the promised job was unavailable, and instead, they were offered work in Russia. Another accused, Sumesh Antony, allegedly took Rs 4.2 lakh for flight tickets.
