PANAJI: A 27-year-old woman tourist and her instructor were killed after falling into a ravine while paragliding. The incident occurred at Keri village on Saturday at 5 pm. The dead were Shivani Dable (27) of Pune and her instructor Sumal Nepali (26) of Nepal. The rope snapped while they were paragliding and the two fell into the ravine. Both died on the spot. The bodies have been kept at the Goa Medical College Hospital morgue. A post-mortem will be conducted today.
The two opted to paraglide with an adventure sports company operating illegally at Keri. The Mandrem police have registered a case against the owner of the company, Shekhar Raizada. Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) has been registered against the owner. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar has reacted to the incident. He also said that he has written to the tourism department to stop paragliding activities in the Keri plateau.
Meantime, two tourists died while paragliding at different places in Himachal Pradesh. The accidents took place in Kangra and Kullu districts. The tourists who died were from Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, police said.
