THRISSUR: Anoj (10), the son of Siljo-Johnsy couple from Kavungal in Kodaly, Thrissur, is showing signs of recovery after suffering a snake bite. According to the latest medical bulletin, the child has regained consciousness and opened his eyes. Hospital authorities confirmed that he is responding to instructions. Anoj had earlier undergone emergency surgery at Apollo Adlux Hospital in Angamaly.

Anoj's brother Aljo died yesterday after being bitten by a snake found under a pillow in their room. Aljo was the younger son of the couple. The snake had bitten Aljo on his hand and Anoj on his leg.

A snake belonging to the "Vellikettan" species was later found under the pillow in the room where the children were sleeping. The children first showed signs of illness at around 2 am the previous day. They had attended a feast near their house as part of a priest's jubilee celebration. After returning home, they drank avocado juice before going to bed. Initially, the parents suspected food poisoning. They gave the children cumin water and put them back to sleep.

At around 4 a.m., foam and froth appeared from Aljo’s mouth. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Kodaly and later shifted to a private hospital in Chalakudy. During the examination, doctors confirmed it was a snake bite. Bite marks were also found on the body. Aljo later passed away. Following this, Anoj was shifted to Apollo Adlux Hospital for further treatment.
