NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court criticized the state government in the wake of the cases registered after the release of the Hema Committee report. The apex court took the government to task for filing cases without conducting preliminary evidence or collecting evidence. The court deemed the procedure insulting to people and sought an explanation from the government. The state government promised to respond within three days.
The court then questioned the government's lax to not file a single case for all these years despite the Hema committee report coming out almost five years back. The Supreme Court reminded the government about the High Court’s directive to not compel anyone to give a statement.
The heavy criticism against the government came while considering the plea filed by an actress who complained about the government forcing her to make more revelations in the case.
Sajimon Parayil also filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the High Court's order to file a case on the Hema Committee report. However, the SC questioned Sajimon’s right to file such a petition.
“Registration of FIR by SIT is part of the procedure. How can registration of FIR be prevented?” The Supreme Court also pointed out that if information about the crime is received, the case should be registered. Meanwhile, WCC informed SC that Sajimon was just a façade and expressed doubts about big elites using him to achieve their ill intentions.
