THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Greeshma, who is serving death sentence in the Sharon murder case, is housed in the cell along with four inmates. Earlier, death row prisoners were kept in solitary confinement. But now, since such inmates have the possibility of appealing to the Supreme Court to have their sentences commuted, those sentenced to death are now being kept in ordinary cells. Those sentenced to death will be shifted to solitary confinement only after the President's mercy petition is rejected.
All considerations given to ordinary prisoners will be given to people sentenced to death in prison. But they will be monitored more than the other convicts. They will not be granted bail or parole until the high court considers the case after the trial court. A two-member bench of the high court should examine the case.
Greeshma's bail was revoked and sent back to jail after she was found guilty in the Sharon murder case. Since she is convicted, she will now have to do work in the jail. She will either be in the canteen or where dolls or handicrafts are made, or in the sewing unit. She will be entrusted only after knowing her interest. The jail authorities said that no one including lawyers, came to meet her yesterday. One of her relatives came with her under garments. She has to wear prison clothes. She spends time by drawing pictures.
Greeshma yesterday went to the prison pharmacy to get medicine for body pains. Greeshma has not been given any work in jail for the time being. Greeshma spent most of the time in the cell. As renovation work is underway in the prison, the convicts are presently accommodated in only one part of the cells.
