PALAKKAD: The intervention of the RSS to resolve the BJP's rift in Palakkad has borne fruit. Prasanth Sivan has taken charge as the BJP Palakkad east district president. Prasanth was sworn in before returning officer Pramila Devi. BJP state vice president K S Radhakrishnan inaugurated the function.
Seven councilors of Palakkad Municipality had earlier said that they will resign from their posts if Prasanth Sivan takes charge. The crisis escalated after four more councilors joined them in the morning. The chairperson and vice chairman of Palakkad Municipality were with them. The RSS leadership intervened following this. Chairperson Pramila Sasidharan then said that she would stand with the BJP and would not resign. Municipality vice chairman E Krishnadas also said that he has no personal objection towards Prasanth Sivan. E Krishnadas also attended the function where Prasanth Sivan took charge.
Meanwhile, the outgoing district president K M Haridas said that if the party leadership takes a decision, disciplined workers have the responsibility to implement it and workers will respond to those opposing it. However, none of the councilors from the opposing faction attended the event when Prasanth took charge.
The rebels alleged that someone else was made president instead of the candidate who contested for the post of president and got the most votes. They demanded that the leadership should correct this by changing the process of electing Prasanth Sivan. Meantime, state president K Surendran responded that it has been proven that there is no factionalism in the BJP.
