ALAPPUZHA: The CPI has expressed its opposition to the approval of the brewery project in Elappully, Palakkad, stating that it should not be implemented without resolving the drinking water issues in the region. The CPI State Executive, which met in Alappuzha, decided to communicate its stance to the LDF leadership. The State Executive also resolved to stand by the decision of the Palakkad District Executive, which had taken a firm stand against the brewery's approval.

The party is of the view that the existing drinking water issues in the region cannot be ignored. CPI ministers pointed out during the meeting that the Excise Minister had clarified the project would not draw groundwater. However, a majority of members emphasized that the project cannot move forward without addressing public concerns. There was also criticism that no significant discussion was held within the LDF before granting approval for the project. The party leadership has been tasked with conveying these concerns to the LDF leadership.
