Rank list to expire in nine days: Nurse appointments not happening; ploy to give temporary appointments?

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 531 nurses are waiting for appointments at the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Science and Technology under the Central Government. The two-year validity of the rank list will end on the 6th of next month. So far, only 59 people have been appointed. This is only 10 percent of those on the list. The appointments will be made only if the governing body approves. There have been allegations that the move is to appoint the employees' favourites as temporary nurses and that they are waiting for the rank list to expire.

The notification for the post of Nursing Officer A was issued on March 23, 2022. The rank list of 590 candidates who passed the written exam and skill test was published on February 6, 2023. However, only 59 candidates were appointed within two years.

Most of the people whose names were on the rank list based on the examination conducted in 2010 had been appointed. The then governing body had extended the validity of the rank list for one year for this purpose. There are allegations that temporary workers were not dismissed even after the current rank list was released, and some agencies have been assigned to fill in the vacancies with favourites.

Nine floors, around 400 vacancies

The inauguration of the new nine-storey building, built at a cost of 230 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, has been scheduled for the 20th of next month. It is reported that around 400 nurses are required for it. Still, the governing body is not ready to appoint those on the rank list or extend the validity of the list. The new building has 170 beds, including pay wards. This is the first time that pay wards are coming to Sree Chitra.
