MUMBAI: Shariful, accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on Wednesday. The verdict was passed by the Bandra magistrate court. The investigating officer requested that the custodial period be extended by two days, but it was not granted. The magistrate demanded more evidence to extend the custody period, per the India Code: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
It was also clarified that the extension of police custody is unnecessary as the investigation and collection of evidence are almost complete. ACP Paramjit Singh Dahiya the other day stated that there was enough evidence against Shariful. ACP's response came after reports of a discrepancy in the accused's fingerprints.
Last day, the police announced that they would conduct a face recognition test to confirm that the person spotted in the CCTV footage obtained from Saif's house was Shariful. A woman from Bengal was arrested last day related to the incident. Police believe she was connected with Shariful Islam. Police investigation reached the woman through the SIM card used by the accused. Police believe that more people are involved. The investigation is ongoing.
