THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has announced that it will levy a surcharge of 10 paise per unit in February as well. This decision is based on the additional liability of ₹18.13 crore incurred for electricity purchases in December 2024. Meanwhile, the electricity bill for February will see a reduction of 9 paise per unit. Previously, a total surcharge of 19 paise per unit was being collected, with 10 paise imposed by KSEB itself and 9 paise approved by the Electricity Regulatory Commission. The 9 paise surcharge, which was approved by the Regulatory Commission to recover the additional cost of electricity purchases until September 2024, will expire at the end of this month. This is the reason for the 9 paise reduction in the February bill.
