'New airport in Bihar, agricultural reforms'; Union Budget 2025 speech begins

NEW DELHI: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman started the second budget presentation of the third Modi government amid strong opposition protests over the Kumbh Mela stampede. Some of the opposition MPs walked out during the budget presentation. Speaker Om Birla assured that the matter would be discussed after the budget. This year's budget will give priority to the poor, women, youth and farmers. The union finance minister started her budget presentation, rolling out initiatives to better the lives of farmers.

  • Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaniya Krishi Yojana in collaboration with the states. The scheme is being implemented in 100 districts with low productivity. The main objective is to improve agricultural production. 1.7 crore farmers will benefit from the project.

  • Scheme in collaboration with states aimed at rural upliftment and improving the lives of rural women and youth.

  • Six-year plan for self-reliance in pulse farming system.

  • Special scheme for fruit and vegetable cultivation.

  • 'Makhana Board' in Bihar - Scheme for Makhana Farmers.

  • Five Year Plan for Upliftment of Cotton Farmers.

  • Kisan Credit Cards for 7.7 Crore Farmers, Fishermen and Fishermen.

  • India Post will be converted into a common logistics organization.

  • National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management in Bihar to provide a strong fillip to food processing activities in the entire Eastern region.

  • New airport in Bihar.
