NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented a 'people's budget'. He said that the budget fulfils the dreams of every Indian and reflects the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
'Budgets usually focus on filling the government treasury, but this one focuses on filling people's pockets and their welfare. It is an important step towards reform,' the Prime Minister said. The income tax cut is a big win for the middle class, salaried employees,' he added.
The Prime Minister said that the announcements in the budget for farmers will revolutionize the agriculture sector and the rural economy. The Prime Minister also complimented Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament. 'Everyone is praising you, the budget is very good,' he told the Finance Minister. The Prime Minister reportedly approached the bench where Nirmala Sitharaman was sitting and congratulated her.
The Finance Minister began the budget presentation by saying that the focus is on the middle class, farmers, women and youth. This was the first full budget of the third Modi government. This is also Nirmala Sitharaman's eighth consecutive budget. With this, Nirmala Sitharaman has broken the record of former Prime Minister Morarji Deshayi, who presented seven consecutive budgets.
