It is the season of re-releases. Last year, Mollywood was stunned after 'Devadoothan' the 2001 film starring Mohanlal, when re-released into theatres, ended up collecting more revenue than newer releases.

The success of ‘Devadoothan’ inspired many in the domain to try their luck. Mammootty’s 2001 movie ‘Valyettan’ was re-released recently, and ended up having quite a good run at the box office. Amidst this, it should be noticed that few of the re-releases floundered too, not even having enough audience to run a show.

And now, it seems that the records set by ‘Devadoothan’ on its re-release will likely be challenged. Mohanlal’s 2007 mass entertainer ‘Chotta Mumbai’ is gearing up for re-release. The movie directed by Anwar Rasheed and written by Benny P. Nayarambalam will hit theatres if to believe the words of Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju.

Niranjan, son of actor and producer Maniyanpilla Raju, while engaging in a candid conversation with the audience on Instagram responded about his father’s movie ‘Chotta Mumbai’ gearing up for re-release in 4k version. If turned real, the theatres will certainly witness a fete, as fans including family are expected to flock to theatres, so as to bring back the good old memories they had almost 18 years back.

‘Chotta Mumbai’, after getting released in 2007 turned into a rave and even bested Mammootty’s late bloomer ‘Big B’.
