LUCKNOW: Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad broke down in tears at a press conference demanding justice for the Dalit woman killed in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh. He said that he will resign from the Lok Sabha if the woman's family does not get justice. A video of the MP crying and others consoling him has gone viral.
'I am going to Delhi. I will raise the issue before the Prime Minister in the Lok Sabha. If justice is not given, I will resign from the Lok Sabha. We are failing to protect girls. How will history judge us? How did this happen to our daughter? The victim should get justice," he said.
Awadhesh was earlier the MLA from Milkipur. He contested in 2024 on the Samajwadi Party ticket and won from the Faizabad Lok Sabha constituency, which includes Ayodhya. With this, a by-election has been announced in the Milkipur constituency. Voting is on the 5th.
Allegations of cruelty
The 22-year-old woman was found dead in a canal the other day. The family alleges that the incident was murder and that the woman was raped. The woman, who had gone to attend a religious ceremony on Thursday night, later went missing. The family said that they informed the police, but the police told them to investigate on their own. Later, her naked body was found. The family says that her hands and feet were tied and that her eyes were missing from the body. Meanwhile, the police said that a case was registered on Friday on the complaint that the girl was missing and that further action would be taken after receiving the postmortem report.
