THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP vehemently opposed the government's move to collect tolls from the roads being constructed under the KIIFB scheme in the state. Sudhakaran warned of hitting the streets with strong agitation if the government remains adamant about moving ahead with the plan to collect tolls.

K SUDHAKARAN:

“Apart from charging fuel cess and half of motor vehicle tax to KIIFB, the government is going ahead with the decision to drain the pockets of poor people in the state. The move to collect tolls on roads will create a financial liability. The same CPM workers were earlier against collecting tolls and now they are supporting it. They have no values and act according to their whims.

The first Pinarayi Vijayan government boasted about making Kerala roads toll-free. The current financial crisis is due to irregularity in KIIFB schemes and irregularities in taking loans. Many of the contracts of KIIFB projects are mysterious. A lot of contracts were awarded to business tycoons and beneficiaries of CPM, adding to the burden.

KIIFB’s financial dealings are all shrouded in mystery. With the loan repayment efforts going awry, the government have now decided to pile all misery on the people of the state.”
