THRISSUR: One person injured in an attack by an elephant brought to the temple festival, has died. The elephant named Chirakkal Ganesan, brought to the festival at Brahmakulam Sree Painkanikkal temple at Elavalli in Thrissur, went berserk. Another person injured in the attack has been admitted to the hospital.

The incident happened this evening at around 3 pm. When the mahout was bathing the elephant, it stabbed him with its tusk and then ran for about 1.5 km. It also stabbed another person standing there. From here, the elephant ran again for about 4.5 km. Though the mahouts went behind the elephant, they were not able to bring it under their control. The mahouts were not able to pacify and calm it down. The elephant ran for more than 14 kms. This is creating a tense situation.
