THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister A.K. Saseendran has proposed Thomas K. Thomas for the post of NCP state president in the vacancy caused by the resignation of P.C. Chacko. He sent an email informing the party's national president Sharad Pawar about this suggestion. Thomas K. Thomas is also on the stand that he will take up the responsibility if the leadership asks him to. With this, Chacko's position in the NCP Kerala unit has become weak.
Although Thomas K. Thomas has been recommended for the post of president, Saseendran told Kerala Kaumudi that he will accept the decision taken by the national leadership. Thomas has also been informed about this. The position of A.K. Saseendran's faction is to resolve the disagreements that have arisen in the state party amicably. The Thomas K. Thomas faction also believes that the logical decision is to come to terms with this.
However, it is learnt that Chacko is trying to block Thomas, who stood by him with the demand for a change of minister initially but then changed his mind at the last minute. He may bring forward the names of some other leaders for this position. The decision will depend on Chacko's influence with Pawar. The names of state vice president P.M. Suresh Babu and general secretary K.R. Rajan are likely to emerge. In the current situation, it is not possible for the national leadership to take a decision without the support of the Saseendran faction, which has the support of more district leaders. Moreover, it is not possible to pretend that the acceptance of Saseendran in the LDF and the sympathy of the Chief Minister for him are not evident. A decision on the state president may be taken in the next two to three days.
