15-year-old girl killed after auto-rickshaw overturns in Kochi

FORT KOCHI: A 10th-standard student died tragically after the auto-rickshaw she was travelling, overturned near Mandrapalam in Kochi on Monday. Veli Dharmasala road resident Darshana (15), daughter of Jairam Babu, died in the accident.

The accident happened at 10 am on Monday. The auto-rickshaw allowed space for a bus to pass through but lost control in the run and flipped. Darshana, who hired an auto from Fort Kochi to reach Chullikal for her tuition class tragically got caught in the accident. Darshana, who suffered serious head injuries, was rushed to a private hospital in Panayappilly in the same auto. Despite the immediate medical care, her life could not be saved.

Darshana was a 10th-class student of Palluruthy St. Aloysius School.

The final rites will be performed today at 11 am in a crematorium. Darshana leaves behind her parents and sister Revathy. The auto rickshaw and its driver Kalistan Rebello (62) were taken into custody.
