Scorching heat in Kerala; Kannur Airport sees temperature rise to near 40 degrees

KANNUR: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported high temperatures in various parts of Kerala today. Kannur Airport recorded temperatures close to 40°C, with a maximum of 39.8°C. In Kannur city, the temperature reached 37.4°C, which is 2.8°C above normal.

Other recorded temperatures include Kottayam- 38.6°C (4.1°C above normal), Kochi: 37.6°C (2.7°C above normal), Vellanikkara: 36.9°C (1.3°C above normal), Kozhikode: 36.2°C (2.4°C above normal), Punalur: 35.8°C (0.1°C lower than normal), Palakkad: 35.6°C and Thiruvananthapuram: 35.7°C (2.2°C above normal).

Kottayam recorded its highest-ever February temperature today at 38.6°C, surpassing the previous records of 38.5°C set on February 23, 2020, and February 27, 2024. The highest recorded temperature in Kottayam, according to data since 1970, was 39°C on March 13, 2024.

At Kannur Airport, today’s 39.8°C is the second-highest February temperature recorded at this station. The highest was 40.4°C, recorded three days ago on February 24. In 2023, Kannur Airport had recorded 39.4°C on February 26 and 27, based on data available since 2021. Meanwhile, Kochi Nedumbassery Airport recorded 37.6°C today, making it the highest February temperature recorded at the station.
