KOTTAYAM: A shocking incident has come to light where a four-year-old boy allegedly consumed chocolate containing traces of a narcotic substance at school. The four-year-old boy, the son of Kottayam Manarcaud natives, fell unconscious after consuming chocolate at school. Subsequent medical tests confirmed the presence of an intoxicating substance in his body. The incident took place on February 17. The boy was taken to a private hospital in Kochi after his blood pressure spiked. Concerned parents filed complaints with the police and the district collector, demanding an investigation. Medical tests detected the presence of benzodiazepine in the child’s body.

Benzodiazepines are typically prescribed for conditions such as sleep disorders but are also misused as recreational drugs. However, it remains unclear how traces of the substance ended up in the chocolate consumed by the child. School authorities stated that they were unaware of how the chocolate had reached the classroom. Though the child has been discharged from the hospital and is now at home, his health is still gradually improving.
