KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has advised against the use of plastic water bottles at wedding receptions and other functions. Instead, the Division Bench recommended switching to glass water bottles. The court also called for stringent measures to eliminate non-reusable plastic.

The court further stated that a license is mandatory for the use of plastic for events with more than 100 attendees. Local self-government bodies have been entrusted with issuing these licenses. The government informed the High Court that half-liter water bottles are prohibited at receptions. The Local Self-Government Department’s Special Secretary also clarified to the High Court that a plastic ban is under consideration in hilly regions.

The Railways also faced strong criticism from the High Court on this matter. The court emphasized that the Railways are responsible for keeping the tracks clean and should not allow waste dumping on them. Additionally, the Railways were directed to ensure the complete removal of waste from the tracks.
