THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 14 people have been selected for the job training program launched by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy with the aim of increasing the presence of women in the technical field of Malayalam cinema, Minister for Culture Saji Cherian announced in a press release. The selected candidates are Sreekala S, Anamika Ashok (Production Management), Veena B, Julia G (Lighting), Kavita Bhama, Divya K.R (Art and Design), Ashwini Nair KP, Pooja S Kumar (Costume), Reshma M, Rimna P (Makeup), Saniya S, Shanthikrishna (Post Production Supervision), Dhanya V Nair, and Nivya V.G (Marketing and Publicity).
The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission (KKEM) as part of the 100-day work program of the third anniversary of the second Pinarayi Vijayan government. Women interested in working in the film industry were selected in two phases based on certain criteria. A committee comprising representatives from the Chalachitra Academy, Kerala Knowledge Economy Mission, and Labour Commissionerate selected 47 qualified candidates from 130 applicants for the first phase of the orientation camp.
30 women participated in the camp held at Vailoppilly Samskruthi Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram, on 27th, 28th, and 29th September 2024. Based on their performance in this camp, 14 selected candidates from seven categories will be given intensive practical training in their respective fields. A fixed amount of stipend will be provided by the Chalachitra Academy during the training period. After the training, employment opportunities will be provided in film production companies.
The training will be provided by technicians actively working in Malayalam cinema. The aim of this training program is to provide practical knowledge for careers in the film industry, develop their existing skills, and expand their career prospects.
