NEW DELHI: Mauritius has conferred its highest civilian award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK), on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This marks the first time an Indian leader has received this prestigious honour.
The award was presented by Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool during the country’s 57th National Day celebrations, where PM Modi attended as the chief guest.
Accepting the award, PM Modi dedicated it to the 140 crore people of India and the 1.3 million citizens of Mauritius, emphasizing the strong friendship between the two nations.
An Indian defense contingent also participated in the National Day celebrations, and as part of the event, an Indian Navy vessel anchored at the Mauritian port. During the visit, India and Mauritius signed agreements to enhance cooperation in trade, economy, maritime security, and technology.
