THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police said Afaan, the accused in the Venjaramoodu mass killing case, had planned to kill another girl, his relative, in addition to the five others. It is hinted that Afaan initially aimed to steal the gold after killing his relative and his paternal grandmother.

He approached her with the aim of stealing her chain, but was not successful. He asked her if she could lend her the chain, but she refused to give. He tried to get the chain from the girl through his mother, Shemi, but in vain. Afaan then thought to steal the chain from his grandmother Salma Beevi.

The second phase of evidence collection was conducted with Afaan the other day. The evidence was collected after taking him to the house of his paternal uncle Latheef, in S N Puram, whom he murdered. The bomb squad was also brought in to collect evidence. The bomb squad was called to find the mobile phone thrown away after the murder. The phone was found during the investigation. Afaan was produced in the Nedumangad court yesterday. The Venjaramoodu police have decided to take Afaan into custody on Friday to collect evidence in the next case.

Meantime, his mother Shemi seriously injured in Afaan's attack and was in the intensive care unit at a private hospital in Venjaramoodu, has been discharged. Shemi's health condition has improved. Shemi has been shifted to an orphanage in Venjaramoodu as she needs further treatment.
