THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Police has arrested an international criminal wanted by the US. Alexsej Besciokov (46), a criminal and Lithuanian citizen who was issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice, was arrested in Varkala. The accused is the co-founder of a cryptocurrency exchange called Garantex. The main charge against him is that he helped criminal gangs and cybercriminals launder millions of dollars of illegal money.
Alexsej Besciokov had been declared a fugitive by the US Department of Justice (DOJ). Alexsej Besciokov, who had come to Varkala to spend a vacation with his family, was taken into custody from a homestay in Varkala. He was planning to leave the country, but the Kerala Police arrested him with the help of the CBI's Interpol unit. The Ministry of External Affairs had intervened in the case at the request of the US. Subsequently, the Patiala House Court in Delhi issued an arrest warrant against Alexsej.
The accused was caught in a joint operation by Interpol, CBI, and Kerala Police. The Kerala Police will produce the accused in the Patiala House Court and then extradite him to the US. A case has also been registered against Aleksandr Mira Serda (40), a Russian national and one of the co-founders of Garantex, for a similar offence. It is reported that he is in the UAE.
