KOCHI: Police recorded the arrest of former students who brought marijuana to the Kalamassery polytechnic hostel. Former students Ashiq and Sharil were arrested in the incident. Thrikkakara ACP TV Baby informed about receiving a vital clue about the source of the ganja business.
“This is a case involving students. More information can be revealed only after complete evidence is received. The arrested were involved in distributing the cannabis. There may be more people involved in the case. They delivered the goods to the hostel as per the students' request. An investigation is also underway to see if any other cases have been registered against them. We have received information about the supplier who gave the banned drugs to these students,” said ACP.
It is reported that ganja was sold in the hostel for as little as Rs 500 as part of the Holi celebrations. Therefore, the investigation team has also decided to check the accused's bank accounts. The investigation team will also examine phone records. If necessary, the police will call back and question the students who are now on bail.
Meanwhile, more information emerged through the crucial intervention of college principal Dr. Aiju Thomas. It was the complaint from the principal suspecting drug use at the hostel that led to the surprise police raid.
“The students of this institution have decided to celebrate Holi from noon on the 14th. We had tip off from reliable sources about students planning to take banned drugs, and marijuana, during the event. Students even took public funding to raise money to purchase the banned stuff.” Said the principal.
