Policeman stabbed by accused in theft case

KOTTAYAM: Civil police officer Sunu Gopi of Gandhinagar police station was injured after being stabbed by an accused of a theft case. Arun Babu (34) of Pullarikunnu Palakkuzhi was arrested in connection with the incident. Sunu Gopi is undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

A team led by SI Anuraj arrived on the basis of a secret information that Arun Babu, the accused in the case of tying up a housewife in Chungam and robbing her of gold and money, was hiding near the SH Ground on March 5. The accused brandished a knife during the physical altercation. While the officer took his knife and proceeded to capture him, the culprit took another hidden knife from his pocket and stabbed him. He was stabbed in the neck. Later, SI Binukumar, Senior Civil Police Officer Dilip Verma, and CPOs Ranjith and Anoop subdued the accused. He was accused in several criminal cases and was deported after being charged with corruption. He was staying in a hostel in Kottayam in violation of this. He will be produced in court today.
