THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues to lash the state capital. Due to thunderstorms and bad weather conditions, several flights scheduled to land at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport were diverted. Two Air India Express flights were rerouted due to the adverse weather. The flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram was diverted and landed at Coimbatore Airport in Tamil Nadu, while another Air India Express flight from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram landed in Kochi.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms were reported in Thiruvananthapuram city. Areas like Thampanoor, Vanchiyoor, and Chalai experienced waterlogging. According to the Meteorological Department, the city recorded 77.5 mm of rainfall within 45 minutes. The weather office also warned that the city remains under cloudy conditions with a high chance of intense lightning.
The forecast predicts rainfall across the state for the next five days, though no district-specific alerts have been issued. However, a warning was issued stating that heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in isolated places across all 14 districts of Kerala today. The IMD also warned of strong winds up to 50 kmph, urging people to remain cautious. Summer showers were widespread in the state yesterday.
