KOLLAM: A woman was caught with 50 grams of MDMA worth Rs 3 lakh near Shaktikulangara police station in Kollam. The arrested accused is Anila Raveendran (34), originally from Anchalummoodu Idavattom, currently residing on rent in Panayam.
Anila was arrested during a joint raid conducted by the City D Squad team and Shaktikulangara police. The woman is already an accused in a previous MDMA case. The police received a tip-off that MDMA sourced from Karnataka was being transported by a woman in her car to sell to school and college students in Kollam city. Based on this information, a large-scale search operation was launched in the city limits from yesterday morning under the leadership of Kollam ACP A.S. Sherif, with three separate teams deployed.
Around 5 PM near the Neendakara bridge, the police located the car. Although they signalled the driver to stop, the vehicle sped off. However, the police managed to block and intercept the car near the Shaktikulangara police station. Upon inspection, the MDMA was discovered concealed inside the vehicle.
This marks the fourth significant commercial MDMA bust by the Kollam City Police this month. The operation was led by Shaktikulangara Inspector R. Ratheesh, SI Suresh Kumar, and D Squad SIs Saijisenan and R. Rajesh Kumar. Team members included Baiju Jerome, Seenu, Manu, Saju, Shafiq, Anu, Anoop, Sunil, and Dileep, along with women police officers Sharika and Ancy.
