Heavy rainfall, wind expected during evening; yellow alert issued in three Kerala districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A yellow alert was declared in three districts in the state today. The yellow alert has been declared in Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. The Meteorological Department has warned of the possibility of moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour in isolated places in various districts.

A yellow alert has been issued for Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Sunday. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rain in isolated areas. The Meteorological Department has also warned the people in these areas to be vigilant.

In many places, power outages were reported. Power has not been restored in many places. Trees were uprooted, while traffic snarls were witnessed in many places.

• Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and lightning. Stay inside the building and avoid touching the walls or floor as much as possible.

• Disconnect electrical appliances from the power supply. Avoid proximity to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.

• Avoid using the telephone during thunderstorms. There is no harm in using a mobile phone.

• Avoid going to terraces at times of thunderstorms.

• Lightning conductors can be installed on top of buildings to protect them from lightning strikes. Surge protectors can be installed to protect electrical equipment.
