THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been officially announced as the state BJP president. The official announcement was made by Prahlad Joshi, in charge of Kerala's organization elections. The decision of the central leadership was forwarded by Prakash Javadekar. Rajeev Chandrasekhar was officially announced as the state president at the state council held in Thiruvananthapuram today.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar had earlier informed the center that he was not interested in becoming the state president. However, the central leadership took the stand that Rajeev's presence was essential to attract the youth of Kerala to the party and increase its influence through social media. Following the party's directive, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who reached Thiruvananthapuram at 2:30 pm yesterday, had submitted his nomination papers before the state's joint returning officer Narayanan Namboothiri.
When Rajeev Chandrasekhar was brought in to oppose Shashi Tharoor in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, there was an indication that the central leadership was moving towards the stance that a new face was needed in Kerala this time, excluding prominent figures from Kerala.
