KOTTAYAM: The investigation team submitted a charge sheet at Ettumanoor Court over the nursing college ragging case. The report said the horrific torture was committed by a group of students who should have been role models for the healthcare services.
Samuel Johnson, Rahul Raj, SN Jeeva, NV Vivek and Rijil Jeeth are the five accused in the case. They are regular drug users. The accused harassed the junior students for about four months. The charge sheet states that the accused took voyeristic pleasure in seeing the students writhing in pain.
The footage of the accused harassing junior students turned out to be crucial evidence in the case. The police scientifically examined it. In addition, information related to ragging was obtained from the accused's mobile phones.
The charge sheet also states that neither the hostel authorities nor the college authorities were aware of the ragging. There are a total of 42 witnesses in the case. The accused had repeatedly bamboozled money from the victims to buy alcohol.
The police took the accused into custody on the night of February 11, and the arrest was registered on the 12th. The High Court had earlier rejected the accused's bail plea. Kottayam SP Shahul Hameed vowed to fight for the maximum penalty for the culprits.
