Thrissur Karate instructor found guilty in sexual assault case, sentenced to 23 years in prison

THRISSUR: A karate trainer was sentenced to 23 years in prison with a fine of Rs 4 lakh in a sexual assault case. The Thrissur Fast Track Special Court sentenced Suresh Kumar (60), a resident of Ayyanthole and resident of Kalhara Apartment, Kundali, to 23 years in prison and a fine of Rs 4 lakh under various sections.

The incident related to the case took place in February 2023. The accused tried to rape a 10-year-old girl at his karate training class. The Viyyur police investigated the case while the prosecution examined 14 witnesses and produced around 20 documents.

The court announced the verdict after accepting Public Prosecutor Liji Madhu's need for an ideal judgment that would serve as a message to society. Sub-Inspector K C Baiju arrested the accused, completed the investigation and submitted the charge sheet before the court. Liaison Officer Assistant Sub-Inspector Sridevi coordinated the prosecution proceedings.
