JAMMU: A soldier was martyred in an encounter with terrorists along the Line of Control in Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The martyr was identified as Subedar Kuldeep Chand. Late last night, the army arrived in the forest area of Keri Bhattal after receiving a tip-off about a cabal of armed men camping near the stream.
During the search, the terrorists opened fire on the army, which was dealt with immediate retaliation. The encounter lasted for a long time. The Subedar was injured in this encounter and later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, in an encounter between the army and terrorists in Kishtwar, the army killed three terrorists. It is reported that a Jaish commander was also neutralised. Weapons, including M-4 and AK-47 rifles and explosives, have been seized from the terrorists.
The search has been intensified on suspicion that more soldiers are hiding in the area. It is believed that the attack was carried out by terrorists who crossed the border recently.
Pakistan-backed terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir had considerably fallen in recent times after the army tightened security measures. However, the trend is slowly detouring to the old, dreary days of fear in the valley.
