SHANGHUMUGHAM: A bird strike disrupted an Oman Airways flight while landing. A hawk collided with the WY 211 flight arriving from Muscat with 150 passengers at 7.30 am yesterday.
The impact shook the plane as the hawk struck the engine, but a disaster was averted due to the pilot's prompt action. The hawk was later found crushed in the engine. While technicians fixed the technical fault and the plane was made ready for another flight, the journey could not continue as the cabin crew had exceeded their working hours. Passengers were subsequently accommodated elsewhere. Airline officials have assured that arrangements will be made to transport the passengers to Muscat soon.
