THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Money has been allocated again for the maintenance of the swimming pool at Cliff House, the official residence of the Chief Minister. Rs 4.5 lakh has been allocated. The sixth phase of maintenance of the swimming pool is underway. More than half a crore rupees have been allocated so far for the renovation and maintenance of the swimming pool.
The contract for the maintenance of the swimming pool has been awarded to the Uralungal Labor Society. From May 2016, when the Pinarayi government came to power, Rs 31,92,360 was spent on the renovation and maintenance of the swimming pool at Cliff House alone.
The previous allocation of Rs 42.90 lakh for the construction of a perimeter wall and a cattle shed at Cliff House was a big controversy. The plan for the new perimeter wall was prepared as per the estimate prepared by the Public Works Building Department based on the report submitted by the police citing security threats. It was found that the old shed was also in a dangerous condition.
The allocation of funds for installing a lift to go up to three floors in Cliff House also attracted much criticism. The Finance Department allocated Rs 25.50 lakh. The decision to install the lift was taken after an inspection by the Public Works Department. This is the first time a lift has been installed in Cliff House. The swimming pool behind the lift.
