KOCHI: The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) WCC supported actress Vincy Aloshious soon after she filed a complaint against Shine Tom Chacko for misbehaving with her on the film sets. The organization said that they support and appreciate her courage. WCC supported her on Facebook.

Through this, they are pinpointing the naked truth that there is widespread alcoholism and other deadly drug use on many Malayalam film sets. WCC also clarified that women should first file complaints of mental or physical abuse with the Internal Investigation Committee (IIC).

WCC’s FB post
We appreciate the courage of Vincy Aloshious, who spoke against the misbehaviour of her co-star, who used drugs without restraint on the film set, which disrespected her femininity.

Through this, they are pinpointing the naked truth that there is widespread alcoholism and other deadly drug use on many Malayalam film sets. Women should first file complaints of mental or physical abuse with the IIC.

One thing that all women working in the film industry in Kerala should realize and understand is that the law has ensured that there must be an Internal Investigation Committee (IIC) on every film set through the Kerala High Court verdict.

The IIC is responsible for ensuring that complaints are handled seriously and that investigations are conducted confidentially and fairly. The Women and Child Development Department has started workshops to educate the members of the IIC on the responsibilities of the committee and the law. The Kerala government also needs to continue its efforts to make the film workplace drug-free.

Each of us, as workers in the Malayalam film industry, must ensure that the IIC is in place on the set where we work and register it on the portal. It is the responsibility of the producer to accurately inform the members of the committee who are the members. It is also necessary to ensure that the IIC is approached if any complaints related to sexual harassment arise.

To ensure the efficient functioning of the IIC, a monitoring committee has been formed under the leadership of the chamber with representation from film organizations as per the instructions of the Women's Commission.

The law defines sexual harassment as not only physical violence. It includes any behavior that causes discomfort to women in the workplace. It is the responsibility of us, along with the production company, to utilize this system. The efficient functioning of the IIC will enable women workers to work with dignity and equality. Let us reiterate on this occasion that the IIC system is to protect women and all women workers should understand it.
