KOTTARAKKARA: A young man died tragically after a car driven by Tenny Joppan, an accused in the solar case and a member of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's staff, rammed into his bike.

Shine Kuttan (33), son of Manikuttan, native of Inchakkad, Kottarakkara, died in the incident that took place at around 6:30 pm on Monday. Police said that Tenny Joppan was coming from Puthur to Kottarakkara and was under the influence of alcohol.

The car lost control as it approached the cashew factory after passing the Kottathala junction, and crossed over to the other side of the road, hitting a bike coming from the opposite direction.

The car, which was going uphill, overturned three times and landed on top of a house in a low-lying area nearby. The bike also fell into the area. Hearing the commotion, people rushed to the scene and tore the car to help Tenny Joppan out. The biker was also rushed to the hospital.

By then, the fire force from Kottarakkara rushed to the spot. Although both were immediately taken to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, Shine Kuttan's life could not be saved. The car and bike were destroyed. Kottarakkara police have registered a case. Shine leaves behind his mother, Ushadevi.
