THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V D Satheesan has not been invited for the Vizhinjam harbour commissioning function. Government sources said the commissioning is part of the fourth anniversary celebrations. However, the opposition is asking how the commissioning can become an annual event.
M Vincent MLA asked whether the Prime Minister is coming for the government's annual programme. The Congress is also criticizing the chief minister's family for attending the meet held in Vizhinjam.
The Prime Minister is coming to inaugurate the Vizhinjam international seaport on May 2. In the context of this, an SPG team has arrived in Vizhinjam for security inspections. The team arrived in Vizhinjam from Delhi on Monday. A helipad will be prepared for the Prime Minister inside the port, adjacent to the port office. The SPG team, including IG-rank officers, visited the venue being set at the port and the helipad construction site and gave security instructions. A trial run of the security arrangements will be conducted on April 30.
The Prime Minister arriving in Thiruvananthapuram on May 1 will stay at the Raj Bhavan. He will reach Vizhinjam by helicopter on May 2nd morning. He will visit the Port Operation Building. From here, he will observe the operation of the port berth, including the control of the cranes, and then reach the inauguration pavilion. A huge pavilion is being set up near the main entrance of the port. The huge pavilion, which is being set up in two rows, can seat about ten thousand people. Those who come to the venue will also be able to watch the inauguration function through LED display.
