THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A seven-year-old girl contracted rabies despite taking the vaccination promptly. The Kunnicode native girl was bitten by a dog on the afternoon of April 8. She is now undergoing treatment at the SAT hospital.
The girl was seated on the front of her house when a mangy dog chasing a duck changed direction to come the girl’s way. The dog then bit the girl and ran away. She was rushed to the hospital and administered anti-rabies serum and IDRV dose immediately.
The relatives thought that the prompt vaccination would put up a bulwark against rabies. The family thus didn’t care to learn the current state of the dog that attacked her. On April 28, the child developed a fever.
She was taken to the hospital, and tests confirmed rabies. The condition of the girl is critical.
