Subi Suresh, who won the hearts of Malayalees through her comic roles and stage performances, passed away in 2023 while undergoing treatment for a liver-related illness. In a recent interview given to a YouTube channel, her mother Ambika stated that Subi would have been alive today had she taken better care of her health. Ambika also said that preparations were underway for Subi’s wedding at the time of her passing.

“We were making arrangements for her marriage when she died. If she had looked after her health properly, she would still be with us. She never used to eat properly,” she said.

Speaking about Rahul, the man Subi was planning to marry, Ambika said, “We are still on good terms with Rahul, who wanted to marry Subi. We are even looking for a good girl for him now. He is like a son to us. We had done all the preparations for their wedding.”

Ambika also disclosed that just a month before her death, Subi had undergone a full body check-up, which did not show any alarming issues. “She had been taking part in the TV show Cinemala for ten years. Even for the last show she did, she was paid just Rs 2,000. She had done shows abroad for very small amounts like Rs 10,000. It was after hosting the children’s show Kuttipattalam that things improved for her. It was actor Ramesh Pisharody who advised her to demand better payment for her performances. He always paid her well. He is someone who truly values artists.”

Ambika went on to explain how the family tried to do charity in Subi’s memory. “A year after her death, we donated generously to an orphanage. But by the second year, we didn’t have the funds to do the same. Someone who visited our home asked, ‘Didn’t Mammootty or Mohanlal offer any help?’ Both of them knew Subi well. They used to joke around when they met. We had a good relationship with them. But we haven't approached them so far seeking help. Subi had worked in films of almost all leading directors except Sathyan Anthikad. She deliberately stayed away from cinema because she was more passionate about stage shows,” she said.
