NEW DELHI: The Indian Armed Forces have launched a precision operation named Operation Sindoor, striking nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), according to an official statement released by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday.

The operation specifically targeted terrorist infrastructure believed to be responsible for orchestrating and supporting attacks against India. According to reports from Pakistani media, the retaliatory action involved missile strikes, confirming attacks in regions including Bahawalpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Muridke. However, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs clarified that no Pakistani military installations were targeted during the operation. Further details about Operation Sindoor are expected to be released soon.

Following the operation, the Indian Army posted a message on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Justice is served. Jai Hind," underscoring the objective of neutralizing cross-border terror threats.

The Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, took place on April 22. Following the incident, India had announced that it would deliver a strong response to Pakistan.

In the days that followed, India initiated several non-military countermeasures, including withdrawing from the Indus Waters Treaty and blocking the flow of water that was meant to reach Pakistan. Additionally, Pakistani nationals were sent back, and communication links were severed, further escalating the response. It was amidst these developments that India carried out targeted strikes on terrorist camps.

Pakistan has announced that it will retaliate against India. Reports indicate that shelling is currently underway in border areas, with heavy shelling reported specifically in Uri. Pakistan has also shut down airports in Lahore and Sialkot, and there are indications that residents in these regions have been issued warnings. Following India's military action, alerts have been issued for air defence systems across Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab, signalling heightened readiness.
