Mud thrown at police; Crowd goes berserk after rapper Vedan cancels event in Kilimanoor

VARKALA: The crowd in Kilimanoor in Thiruvananthapuram went amok on Thursday night after learning about Rapper Vedan cancelling the scheduled event due to the shocking death of an electrician on stage.

Some people had to wait for more than 10 hours in the hope of seeing their favourite rapper in action. However, late into 10 pm last night, news reached them about the program being cancelled, considering the death of a technician.

Agitated over the news and learning how their long wait braving the scorching sun had gone in vain, the crowd, mostly youngsters went berserk and started throwing mud at the organisers and even the police. All attempts to mollify them went in vain as even high police officials were not spared from the mud treatment.

After a few minutes, the police officials got on stage and warned people about the cameras monitoring their actions. It was a sly hint of an awaiting repercussion but the people were unbothered. They continued with the boos and many even walked straight to the stage to confront the organizers.

Social media responded to the issue and criticized the crowd for lacking the niceties at a time of concern. Some even asked the rapper to never perform at this venue.

“Liju, a technician was electrocuted at my event to be staged in Kilimanoor. In such a situation, it is mentally difficult for me to sing in front of you. I have spoken to the organizers and the relevant authorities about this.

I wanted to say this in front of the people who have been waiting for a long time to see and hear me. I am in a situation where I cannot come in front of you directly and say this due to the crowd and lack of security. I believe that you, my dear ones, will understand this and exercise restraint.” Said Vedan.
