THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stray dog menace is spreading across the state and it has already instilled fear in the capital city’s posh residential area of Kowdiar. A ferocious dog bit 30 people in the Kowdiar, Jawahar Nagar and Pipinmoodu areas on Sunday and Monday.

The injured locals were treated in general hospitals and private hospitals in the city.

Following a complaint from locals, the corporation's dog-catching squad caught the dog on Monday afternoon from the Kowdiar Subramanya Temple premises. The health department has not yet confirmed rabies on the dog.

The dog started by attacking three people on Golf Links Road. Later it went on a biting spree and attacked whoever it saw on the road. Locals allege that the dogs are multiplying here due to garbage dumping in the Golf Links area and a few 'magnanimous' locals feeding them on the roadside.

290 city residents have been admitted to the general hospital due to dog bites in the last 30 days in Thiruvananthapuram.
