THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Drugs Control Department has taken action against a private hospital for selling medicines obtained as samples at exorbitant prices. The action is against Doctors Speciality Hospital, located at Nilakkamukku Kadakkavoor in Thiruvananthapuram district. It was found that several medicines marked as 'Physicians' Samples' were kept for sale, and the medicines were sold at exorbitant prices. The medicines and documents found during the inspection were presented to the Varkala Magistrate's Court, and further action was taken.
Health Minister Veena George said that strict action will be taken against those selling physicians' samples and charging exorbitant prices for medicines. Those with complaints should inform the Drugs Control Department. (Toll-free number 1800 425 3182) The minister also clarified that the inspections will continue strictly.
Following a confidential tip-off, the inspection was conducted at the private hospital under the coordination of the Assistant Drug Controller, Intelligence Branch, as per the instructions of the Drugs Controller. Drugs Inspector Praveen( Zone 3 ), Chief Inspector Drugs Intelligence Squad Vinod V, Drugs Inspector (SIB) Maniveena M.G, and Drugs Inspector Aji S participated in the inspection.
