THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former KPCC president K. Sudhakaran has urged that PV Anvar should be brought into the UDF. Speaking at a press conference, Sudhakaran said that the front would face a setback if the votes under Anvar’s influence do not come to the UDF in the Nilambur by-election. He also stated that the Indian Union Muslim League is interested in bringing Anvar into the alliance.
"PV Anvar's entry into the party is a matter for the Congress to discuss and decide. That decision should not be made solely by the Leader of the Opposition. It must be a collective decision of the party leadership. So far, senior leaders have not held any discussions regarding Anvar. A discussion is essential under the new president's leadership, and I believe it will happen very soon," Sudhakaran said.
When asked whether the Opposition Leader had not taken a sympathetic stance on Anvar, Sudhakaran replied: "Individual preferences and interests exist among many leaders within a party. What he says may not reflect the view of the party or the alliance. It may just be a personal opinion. It’s wrong to assume that such an opinion should be the sole basis for assessing the electoral prospects. If the votes influenced by Anvar don’t come to the UDF, it will be a setback. My personal view is that Anvar should be brought into the alliance and be made to stand with the UDF."
However, VD Satheesan clarified that his statements regarding PV Anvar are not personal but reflect the decision of the Congress. He added that it is up to PV Anvar to decide what stance he wants to take in the election. Whether Anvar will cooperate with the Nilambur by-election and UDF’s campaign efforts will depend on the decision he makes. Once Anvar makes his decision, the UDF will respond accordingly, Satheesan said.
