KOCHI: Following the Supreme court order to demolish the controversial apartments in Maradu, the Maradu municipality on Tuesday issued notice to the residents of the flats. The notices were put up on the flats as the residents were not ready to receive it. The inmates have been asked to vacate the flats within five days.

Earlier, the residents had staged protests against the officials who came to hand over the notice. They had also locked the gates of the Jains Coral Cove flat in order to prevent the authorities from entering. It is learnt that the residents will conduct a protest in front of the municipality building tomorrow. Meanwhile, the municipality has issued a notification seeking for expert companies to carry out the demolition process. It has been decided that the buildings will be demolished using controlled explosion method.

Earlier, the Supreme court had ordered to demolish the illegal apartments within September 20. It also warned that the Chief Secretary will have to appear in the court on September 23 if he fails to implement the order.
