MALAPPURAM: Vallikkunnu MLA AP Abdul Hameed said that the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) had intended to work together with P.V. Anvar. His remarks come in the wake of criticism directed by the League at Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan for what it described as “unnecessary stubbornness” during a recent meeting. Following the criticism, Abdul Hameed openly voiced discontent with the UDF, asserting that Anvar’s political stance is in line with that of the UDF. He further stated that the responsibility of securing a victory in the Nilambur by-election should not rest solely on the Muslim League. Hameed made the remarks during a meeting of Muslim League leaders tasked with overseeing the Nilambur by-election.
"The League wished to bring Anvar into the UDF and work together with him. We made efforts in that direction. Anvar is not a closed chapter yet. Even if he has submitted his nomination papers, there’s still time to withdraw. The UDF leadership must understand the new situation and take the initiative. Malappuram is a district where the League holds significant influence. The League was ready for the by-election immediately after Anvar resigned," Hameed said.
He also added that Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Thangal and P.K. Kunhalikutty spent a lot of time trying to bring Anvar into the UDF. "Anvar himself laid the groundwork for this election. He remains on the frontlines against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Any reasonable demand made by Anvar should be considered. Satheesan made no attempt to persuade Anvar. Instead, he showed unnecessary rigidity in this matter," Abdul Hameed added.
