KOCHI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is closing the further proceedings in 33 of the 35 cases taken up on the basis of the Justice Hema Committee report. The case was registered following the High Court's direction. The cases are being closed in a situation where those who gave statements are not interested in proceeding with them. The special team closed 23 cases and submitted a report to the High Court. The rest will be closed this month.
A charge sheet has been filed in only one case. The investigation will continue in the cases where actors Mukesh, Siddique and others are accused. Although notices were issued to record statements, all but one said that they were not interested in the legal proceedings. Although notices were served through the court, there was no change in the response. The government appointed the Special Investigation Team in August 2024 after some parts of the Hema Committee report were released through the Right to Information Commission.
Meanwhile, in the 33 cases that are being closed, further investigation will be opened at any time, if the ones who gave statements come forward. This is how the report has been submitted to the High Court, top police officials told Kerala Kaumudi.
35 chargesheets
More than 40 cases were registered in addition to the statement in the Hema Committee report. Chargesheets were filed in 35 of these cases. The chargesheets were in cases against Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Ranjith, Siddique, Jayasurya and others. The remaining ones will be submitted soon.
"Oh okay. Now can we focus on the ACTUAL reason this committee was formed? Putting policies in place to help make regulations in the industry? What is happening with that CM of Kerala? No rush eh, it's only been 5 and a half years since the report was submitted."
