NEW DELHI: India is preparing for the test of its latest and most advanced hypersonic missile. Named 'Project Vishnu', this missile has been developed entirely using indigenous technology and symbolises a significant leap forward in the nation's defence capabilities.

The missile is completely manufactured within India. It has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with private sector firms. Designed to target specific locations in enemy nations such as Pakistan and China, the missile boasts a maximum speed of Mach 8, which means it can travel at approximately 11,000 kilometres per hour, or around 3 kilometeres per second.

The missile is virtually undetectable and unstoppable by current radar or air defense systems. It is considered a strategic weapon. Powered by a state-of-the-art scramjet engine, the missile uses air from the atmosphere to burn fuel, allowing it to maintain high speed over longer durations. A 1,000-second ground test of this new engine has already been successfully completed, demonstrating India's advancements in propulsion technology.

Unlike conventional ballistic missiles that follow predictable paths, this missile can change direction at low, medium, and high altitudes, making it harder to intercept. It is built using special heat-resistant materials capable of withstanding extreme temperatures of up to 2000 degrees Celsius. Additionally, it has a special coating to protect it from saltwater and sunlight, enhancing its durability.

As a result, the missile can be launched from land, air, or sea. It includes features that will greatly enhance the Indian military's combat capabilities. With the development of this missile, India joins the ranks of countries such as the United States, Russia and China, which have demonstrated expertise in hypersonic technology. The fact that the missile is indigenously developed makes India's achievement even more remarkable. It is also expected to significantly enhance national security against potential future threats.
